These are the two antennas I used for decoding telemetry from the 'ANU' HAB payload on 20th May 2012.

The 1/4-wave whip is the DVB antenna supplied with the TV dongle. The dipole I put together quickly with a couple of bits of (barely visible) blue wire soldered to a BNC socket and taped to the end of the plastic pipe.

The dipole was several dB superior but the direct RF path from the balloon was through next-door's house, so the received signal fluctuated a lot in strength regardless.

I did straighten out the wire on the dipole after taking this photo!
